Child Connect officer to ensure better disability services for Townsville children
A new Child Connect program in Townsville is linking children with a disability to a range of key local services, Disability Services Minister Annastacia Palaczczuk said today.
Ms Palaszczuk said in a Queensland first, a Townsville-based Child Connect officer was delivering outreach services to local children and their families as part of a two-year pilot.
“This is great news for the Townsville community, and it will mean better disability services for local children and their families,” she said.
“Townsville-based Child Connect officer Sue Eldred is already out there in the local community, delivering vital outreach services to children and their families.
“She’s visiting child care centres and people in their own homes, connecting local children to doctors, therapists and other important services.
“Child Connect is about getting people out from behind their desks and into community to deliver services where they’re needed most.
“It’s not always easy for families to find the right disability services for their children, but a locally based Child Connect officer will make it a whole lot easier.”
Ms Palaszczuk said the Child Connect program was aimed at children aged zero-to-six.
“Child Connect is linking children to early intervention services, health services and parenting support programs, and it’s also helping those raising children in the family home,” she said.
“I’m confident local families will benefit from this innovative new way to connect children to disability services.”
