AEIOU

The AEIOU Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation and Queensland’s only full time early education program for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) 2ó to 6 years of age. All children in this age range with a formal diagnosis of ASD,Aspergers, PDD-NOS or Rhetts are eligible.

Each group of children are supported full time by skilled facilitators as well as staff from the disciplines of speech pathology, occupational therapy, child psychology and early childhood teaching. The high ratio of specialists to children is unique to AEIOU and key to the success of the curriculum. School readiness and transition support is recognised as an important part of the AEIOU program. Support is provided for the child’s transition to their future educational setting. We believe by delivering a fulltime and customised program by autism trained therapists, teachers and facilitators, we are optimising the chances of these children reaching their full potential.

The Program

AEIOU offers an intensive individual program tailored to meet the specific needs of each child and family. The program develops the skills of a child in the following areas:

• Social interaction and play skills

• Cognitive development

• Self-help/tasks of everyday life

 Communication

• Sensory integration• Fine and gross motor skills

AEIOU is a family centered service that recognizes families as the key people in supporting  child’s development. The staff work with each family to share knowledge, strategies and resources to ensure that learning is carried from the educational setting into the child’s home environment. The centre operates as a long day care centre from 7.30am to 3.30pm and the intensive program runs from 9.00am to 2.30pm Monday to Friday (excluding Wednesdays when the program concludes at noon).

AEIOU foundation strives to provide affordable access to our autism specific program. AEIOU feels strongly that services should be affordable so that no family should be disadvantaged. Please contact the centre if you need information on fees, as many families will be eligible to receive further funding or financial assistance.
